Microsoft dio a conocer una nueva versión de su programa Office 2013, adaptada para tabletas y otros dispositivos de pantalla táctil.
El nuevo Office, el producto que genera la mayor parte de los ingresos de Microsoft, fue anunciado anteayer por el presidente ejecutivo de la compañía, Steve Ballmer. La novedad aprovecha las ventajas de la computación en la nube (servicios de almacenamiento Web) y está diseñada para usarse con el próximo sistema operativo Windows 8, que saldría en octubre. También incorpora Skype , el servicio de videollamada gratuito que Microsoft compró en 2011.
Con esta nueva versión, cuando el usuario grabe un documento de Word o de Excel, por ejemplo, lo guardará en la nube, es decir en el servicio de Internet SkyDrive, y no en la computadora, como siempre fue hasta ahora .

El nuevo Office, además, permitirá tomar los documentos guardados en la nube desde diversos dispositivos. Incluso se podrá compartir un diccionario personalizado.
Desde Microsoft explicaron que Office recordará el lugar “donde te quedaste y te llevará de regreso a esa actividad con un solo clic”.
La última versión de Office se presenta cuando Apple y Google comienzan a pisar con fuerza en el terreno de las oficinas (históricamente favorable a Microsoft) con servicios en la nube como iCloud o Google Drive.

“Este paquete Office está diseñado desde el primer momento como un servicio”, dijo Ballmer. “Es el lanzamiento más ambicioso de la historia de Microsoft Office”.
Lo cierto es que Microsoft se juega mucho en esta versión 15 de Office. Windows es una de las plataformas de computación más grandes del mundo y las aplicaciones de Office –Word, Excel, PowerPoint y otras herramientas– son utilizadas por más de mil millones de personas en todo el mundo .
La nueva versión utilizará Microsoft SkyDrive como servicio de almacenamiento por defecto. Los documentos se podrán compartir en Facebook o publicarlos en blogs. “El lanzamiento de Windows 8 está a la vuelta de la esquina, y tenemos mucho que hacer ... En cierto sentido, lo que sentimos se parece mucho a 1995”, dijo Ballmer, en referencia al sistema operativo Windows de Microsoft 95, que fue un importante paso adelante en la historia de la compañía. “Hoy presentamos la más emocionante y vibrante versión de Windows en muchos años”, dijo Ballmer. El directivo de Microsoft no dio a conocer planes de precios para el nuevo Office.
